Oyster Mushroom Troubleshooting Guide
Quick Problem Diagnosis
Kit Not Growing From All Holes
The kit can naturally divert nutrition to the most favorable environmental locations. This is completely normal behavior. Important: Harvest mushrooms when ready - don't wait for other holes to catch up!
Saturated Compost Problem
Pooling water or excessive hydration prevents mushroom formation. If you see standing water in any holes:
- • Dab pooling water with paper towel immediately
- • Skip spraying for one day
- • Reduce to once daily until new pins appear
- • Return to twice daily when growth resumes

Pooling water - dab dry if you see this

Kit Not Growing From All Holes?
New Growth Drying Out? It is quite likely one of the holes not growing has less favourable conditions, this could be draughts or proximity to high heat, the carrier bag method below could alleviate this.
Environmental Requirements
Maintain temperature between 14-21°C with 18-19°C being ideal. Keep away from draughts and direct air flow.
⚠️ Wilting Crops: Unfortunately won't recover - harvest them and fix the environment for next crop
Move to sheltered spot at 18-19°C and use carrier bag method if needed. Never keep in direct sunlight.
Signs You Need More Humidity
- Mushroom edges curling or drying
- Slow or stunted growth
- Not all holes producing
- Caps cracking or splitting

Harvesting for Continued Crops
⚠️ #1 Cause of No Second Crop: Leaving too much stem blocks new growth!

Correct harvesting - clean, flat cut tight to compost surface
Harvesting Steps:
- Use sharp, clean knife
- Cut as close to compost as possible
- Leave flat, clean surface - no jagged stems
- Remove any leftover tissue
Carrier Bag Humidity Method
For dry environments or struggling kits, this simple method dramatically improves humidity:
